My life is an accumulation. A fruitful gleaning of wisdom from all of you who have gone before.
You are the older women who helped shape me.
You noticed a young, fumbling woman and said, “Walk with me.”
You may not have used actual words, but your actions said exactly that: “Walk with me.”
Patiently you taught me to work, to “adult,” to worship, to persevere, to learn, to believe. To forgive. To let go. To hold my head high in the confidence of my true identity.
You helped shape the woman I am today, and you laid the groundwork for the woman I’ll be tomorrow.
You were a mentor, a big sister, a confidant, a helper and a friend.
You nurtured in me a godly womanhood that continues to bloom.
Your words reached into my broken places with a healing touch. Your actions have spoken into my heart and continue to reverberate to this day. The thought of your grace still warms me.
You helped me find my way. I discovered who I was meant to be.
How can I ever thank you enough? How could I ever repay all that you have invested in me, for all the life you poured into the gaps of my being?
I realize now the best possible way I can show my gratitude in its full measure is to do the very thing you did for me.
I will pass it on. I will invest in my younger sisters.
I will move in alongside the ones coming after me, and I will teach them with the same patience, empathy, wisdom and Christ-following love you taught me.
I will be the you for them.
This is how we will change the world. One older and younger sister in Christ at a time.
Our legacy for the generations to come.
Thank you for showing me the way, the truth and the life.
